Be a Light!             15-15-15

IF YOU MISSED JOINING US ON JULY 15TH or AUGUST 15th, PLEASE CONTINUE TO READ the narrative and our "IMPORTANT UPDATE"page AND JOIN US ON SEPTEMBER 15TH AND OCTOBER 15TH.  WE ALL NEED YOU TO BE A LIGHT!!!

If you never heard the song “Be a Light”, I beg you to listen to the lyrics.  It is amazing and life-changing.  I don’t know any of these people personally nor do I expect to make any money from what I am asking.  I am just one person trying to make a difference and BE A LIGHT!

I have lived a good while and have experienced joy, sorrow, heartache and all the rest.  I know what trying financial times are and what it feels like to wonder how you will pay the bills.  I know what it is like to be falsely accused of wrongdoing and experienced what it feels like to be torn down by gossip and innuendo.  I know all about illness and injury.  I know what loss feels like and I know what it feels like to struggle with temptation and sin.  I know joy at the birth of a child and distress when they tell you that they don’t know if that same child will live through the night.  These are things which if you live long enough, everyone will go through or experience in some way or another.  I don’t want your pity!  It is called LIFE and I like everyone else out there, have experienced it.  It is the result of us living in a fallen world.

As we go through our struggles, the key is to choose through our joyous gift of free will to be loving and merciful towards each other instead of choosing to tear each other apart. The truth is, we are all connected in more ways than we realize.  For every person that you think “has it made” or is “blessed”, that same person is either experiencing at present or has experienced in the past or will experience in the future some situation which is very similar to what you are going through right at this moment.  We all carry heavy burdens that others don’t know about.  Let us begin today to lighten each other’s load and remember that there are more things that unite us than divide us and there are more things that make us the same than make us different.

We need to stop focusing on those few things that make us different and focus on the many things that make us the same.  For example, we are all children of God.  That is the only thing that is truly important.  If you don’t believe in God, just know that He believes in you.  We need to understand that unfortunately, this life presents all of us with challenges and trials.  We can either ACT and face those challenges in a positive way and bring each other up or we can choose to REACT to them and tear each other apart.  The choice is ours.  This is what “free will” and “choice” is truly about.  Will you choose “good” or “evil”?  It is very simple.

On July 15, 2020 (and August 15th and September 15th) at 9:15 p.m. (note there is no time zone as it would be great if we have people in each time zone participate so this will “roll” across our country), we would like everyone to grab a candle (or flashlight if you are concerned about safety issues) and go outside (or inside if you prefer) and pray. If you can do so safely and within the guidelines of your community, join with others.  If you are not the “praying type”, then meditate quietly or listen to some inspiring music.  TURN OFF the TV, computer, social media, etc.  STOP THE NOISE of what people with varying agendas are trying to tell us.  Let us take the time to listen to each other

On this page, you will find resources available on PDF for download or printing with powerful words and prayers written by people far more intelligent and gifted than I.  If those options don’t inspire you, you can simply choose something that speaks to your heart.

During this "downtime", think about the following:

What is truly in your heart?

Do you want to be a person who “acts” or one who “reacts”?

Do you believe that you can make a difference?

Do you want to focus on what we have in common or what makes us different?

Ponder that for a moment.

Lately there has been a lot of coverage of “reaction”.  Much of the “reaction” has been harmful to people and communities.  There has been little “action”.  There is an enormous amount of discord being sown by powerful people who are using others to promote harmful conflict among us. Refuse to become a part of the disharmony.  Next time some news anchor, journalist or social media type spreads innuendo, half-truths or outright lies, demand better.  Stop listening to what people are saying about others and demand verifiable proof of someone’s words or actions before you buy into what "they" say.  Listen to ALL of someone's words, not just some line taken out of context.  Once a false accusation spreads, few media types will make the same effort or take the same time to retract the falsehood. Be better than the individuals that are sowing discord!  Choose to ACT not REACT!

When we react in anger or frustration, we destroy not only buildings, monuments and cities, we destroy others and ourselves.  When we act with reason, understanding and MERCY, we build up our communities and ourselves! Demand the verifiable, demonstrable TRUTH and become a person who ACTS not REACTS!
As a starting point, try the following:

1 – Join us at 9:15 p.m. on July 15, August 15 and September 15 for at least 15 minutes of prayer and/or meditation.

2 – Make it a goal to accomplish 15 (or feel free to set your goal higher!) random acts of kindness before the scheduled time. We don’t have to do “big things”.  As Saint Mother Teresa said “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

Some suggestions:

-          Next time you are in the store, look at the name tag of your cashier or ask for their name.  Offer a kind word to the weary, overburdened worker and tell her/him to have a “blessed day”.

-          Listen to someone who has an opinion that is different from yours.  We can’t change minds if we can’t change hearts.  If we LISTEN to one another, we are sure to find some common ground.  If you continue to disagree, look up FACTS.  We are all entitled to our own opinion but we aren’t entitled to our own facts.

-          Instead of handing the homeless guy a dollar and being on your way, ask his name and talk to him for a minute or two.  People have names for a reason, ask for them and use them!

-          FORGIVE someone.  I mean truly forgive!  You don’t have to forget what the other person did but let it go.  Forgiveness isn’t something that you give to others but a gift you give yourself. Refusing to forgive is a burden that can become increasingly difficult to carry the longer you hold on to it and one that is far too heavy to bear.

-          Ask for forgiveness or pray that you will be forgiven if you aren’t able to ask the injured party.

-          Bring your elderly neighbor a candle or flashlight and ask them to join in and BE A LIGHT!

Please let your friends, neighbors, coworkers, pastors, etc. know about this and ask them to join us.  If you can, reach out on social media and help to be the POSITIVE change we all need. I don’t have all the answers, but I am willing to LISTEN!!We want to hear from you. See our "Contact" page to connect with us.  There are a lot of people talking but there are very few willing to listen.

Please everyone, I beg you.  We cannot find common ground among the noise and chaos.  No one truly hears someone who shouts but everyone will strain to hear the whisper.  Let us not forget to be kind to each other.  We have to start somewhere.

Let it start with US.
